Laboratoire PYC launches high-protein triangle crisps

Unique new dietetic product recently received the Best Tasting Functional Food Award at Vitafoods in Geneva.

Given the growing success of its high-protein dietetic round crisps launched in 2012, Laboratoire PYC, the B-to-B expert in dietetic products, has just launched a new triangle format: the Tortitos®.

This dietetic product, unique in the world, has recently received the award of the “Best Tasting Functional Food” at “Finished Products Europe 2015” (Vitafoods, Geneva).

Laboratoire PYC, the European leader in the development of high-protein, low-calorie products, is forging ahead in the development of effective slimming solutions. The provider of high-protein slimming powder has been a driving force for research and development in healthy snacking solutions over the last 10 years. It has 42 ready-to-eat high-protein products available from stock, including biscuits, wafers, bars, and crisps.

The Tortitos’ formula has a protein content of 47 percent, "which is exceptionally high compared with traditional potato crisps that contain just 5.5 percent on average" (source: CIQUAL AFSSA French food composition table, 2013). The carbohydrates and fats in this recipe have also been reduced substantially. The recipe contains 70 percent fewer carbohydrates and 55 percent less fat than potato crisps.

Several flavors are offered: corn chicken and bacon but also more innovative or country-specific flavors (e.g., cheddar, hot chili lime, paprika).

The flavors are created totally in-house, thanks to Laboratoire PYC's parent group, SOLINA.

With more than 25 years of experience, SOLINA combines the creativity of chefs and flavorists with the scientific know-how of engineers and nutritionists. The Snacks hub, based in Breal-sous-Monfort and specialized in flavored solutions for pre-dinner biscuits and chips, has developed a range of seasonings which are specific for that kind of application.

The high-protein crisps are packaged in small bags of 25 grams to 35 grams on average. Functional claims such as "high protein", "high fiber" or "low sugar" can be made. Numerous studies have demonstrated and continue to prove the important role of proteins in weight control, and the trend for protein-rich products is to become mainstream in such diverse segments as dairy beverages, cereal bars and savory snacks. More over, “Chips with healthier credentials are still niche but are seeing increasing interest from consumers and success in sales”. (Source: Mintel, chips market trends, 2014)

Laboratoire PYC has been a forerunner in the development of high-protein diet crisps and is planning to launch other high-protein diet snacking solutions over the coming year. "We have every intention of maintaining our lead in innovation in this field," points out Aurélie de Schuyteneer. "Laboratoire PYC has succeeded in making a name for itself in this promising market thanks to the quality of its products, its nutritional expertise and also its vigorous proactivity."

Customer service is another core value held by the French company, which offers products that are totally developed and custom-packaged for its customers. It is this that explains Laboratoire PYC's successful and long-standing support for leading European brands positioned in the health and nutrition segment.
