Ripon, CA-- According to a recent report by the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) of the National Academy of Sciences, evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of plant sterols and stanols in lowering plasma lipids is among the top 25 most significant scientific advances in dietary supplement research of the past year. Plant sterols are the active ingredient in new CardioPRO™ nutrition bars from La Belle, Inc.
ODS cited a study published in Journal of Cardiology in which 2 grams per day of plant sterols/stanols provided in a margarine spread significantly lowered LDL “bad” cholesterol, an effect that was further enhanced when the “phytosterols” were offered in addition to statin drug therapy.
Plant sterols and related stanols have chemical structures similar to cholesterol, but are actually heart healthy. By increasing the dietary intake of plant sterols, these cholesterol look-alikes are believed to displace cholesterol during meals, as well as increase cholesterol excretion, resulting in lower blood cholesterol levels.
The benefits of fiber ingestion on lowering LDL cholesterol were also highlighted by the report, which is available at www.ods.od.nih.gov.
CardioPRO™ nutrition bars are the first products in the bar category that are specially formulated to help lower cholesterol as part of a healthy diet. CardioPRO™ bars provide 1.5 grams of plant sterols and 5 grams of dietary fiber per satisfying serving.
CardioPRO™ is available in 6 unique flavors: Apple Cinnamon, Double Chocolate Fudge, Peach Apricot, Chocolate Chip Raisin, Mocha Almond, and Lemon Poppyseed. CardioPRO™--for a healthy heart… naturally!
