AMERICAN FORK, Utah, Sept. 24, 2007 - With the category of mangosteen fruit juice supplements rapidly growing and several new formulations hitting the market, consumer confusion has risen as to which products are the most beneficial. A recently completed analysis conducted by Covance Labs compared Pure Fruit Technologies' mangosteen juice supplement, Mango-xan Antioxidant Recovery Formula, to a 100 percent alternative and determined that Mango-xan contained more active phytonutrients and actual mangosteen fruit than its 100 percent counterpart.
Mango-xan was found to have nearly seven times the amount of fleshy-fruit solids than the tested 100 percent alternative. That means a bottle of Mango-xan contains the fruit of approximately 12 mangosteen, while the alternative includes the fruit of only two mangosteen. In place of fleshy-fruit solids, the 100 percent option has more than five grams of non-nutrient rind ground up in its formula. Pure Fruit Technologies opts to use a standardized extract of the mangosteen rind to ensure consistent xanthone content in each bottle, and eliminate the bitter flavor associated with the peel. These results also reveal that Mango-xan has twice the ORAC score and more than double the amount of health-promoting xanthones per serving than the 100 percent alternative. Mango-xan also delivers additional nutrients from fruits including pears, blueberries, red sour cherries, red grapes, cranberries, pineapple, starfruit and lychee fruit.
"Rather than simply tell consumers Mango-xan is a superior mangosteen juice supplement, we hope these third-party results clearly illustrate that a 100 percent formulation is not necessarily the most healthful," stated Wayne Geilman, Ph.D., senior research scientist, Pure Fruit Technologies. "Because Mango-xan has the highest ORAC score in the category, as well a lower retail price than alternatives, it remains the best mangosteen juice supplement option for retailers and consumers."
Retailers are invited to sample Mango-xan at Pure Fruit Technologies' booth #2117 at Expo East, to be held Sept. 27-29, 2007 in Baltimore, MD, and taste for themselves how it compares to 100 percent mangosteen alternatives.
