Clermont, FL (January 24, 2008) Uncle Matt’s Organic announced today that CEO and Founder Matt McLean is the recipient of the Orlando Sentinel’s “Culinary Cup”, an inaugural Culinary Hall of Fame award recognizing those who have made significant contributions to how Central Florida eats, drinks and dines. According to Heather McPherson, the Sentinel’s Food Editor, “Central Florida’s culinary community has been shaped and nurtured by thousands of passionate individuals. From the soil to the table, these professionals have demonstrated a commitment to quality and a vision for the future. Matt was named Culinary Hall of Fame Winner because of his tremendous commitment to organic citrus growing, thereby protecting America’s orchards and offering sustainability for future generations.”
Matt’s career in organic citrus began in 1999, when he started Uncle Matt’s Organic. His citrus roots date back four generations to his great grandfather, who farmed without the use of harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. Matt has over 10 years of organic industry experience in marketing, distribution, growing, certification, retail, and public policy. He currently is a board member for the Organic Trade Association, the largest trade organization for the organic industry.
“I consider myself a pioneer, agricultural activist and entrepreneur in the organic industry,” says Matt. “It’s not just a lifestyle -- it’s about healthy living and healthy soils. For me, it’s laying the foundation for the next generations to come.”
Today, Uncle Matt’s Organic is one of the fastest growing fresh fruit and juice brands in the U.S. and is a family-owned and run business.
