Drinkable omega-3s
Nordic Naturals has introduced Omega-3 Effervescent, a delivery system for fish oil that is clean on the palate. Packaged in single-serving packets, the product simply requires adding water. Each serving offers 500mg of EPA and DHA, as well as 1,200IU of vitamin D3. Omega-3 Effervescent contains cod-liver oil made from Arctic cod harvested in a sustainable manner from Norwegian waters. Sweetened with stevia in a creamy orange flavour, the product has no oily feel or texture and never smells or tastes fishy. It is available in 7- and 21-count packages and can be used by both children and adults.

Amazing Grass high-protein bar
Amazing Grass has launched Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Bar. It contains fruits and vegetables in Green SuperFood Powder with organic peanuts and whey protein. One bar delivers five-plus daily servings of fruits and vegetables, as well as 12g of protein, 270 calories, 14g of healthy omega fats, 19g of sugar and 28g carbohydrates. The ingredients include: organic peanut butter, organic agave nectar, organic dates, whey-protein concentrate, organic peanuts, organic rice crisps, natural flavour, peanut extract, organic vanilla extract, sea salt and Amazing Grass Green SuperFood.

Seafood shelf-life booster
Hefestus of Israel has created an advanced packaging solution for extending the shelf life of fresh seafood, which is highly susceptible to oxidation and degradation. SLB technology enables manufacturers to retain seafoods' freshness, good flavour and high quality for up to 21 days without resorting to vacuum techniques. Hefestus develops and manufactures a wide variety of standard and custom-made top-sealing packaging machines, from manual to fully automatic lines, to meet the complex packaging requirements of processors and consumers.

New company launches with omega-3 product
US Omega Inc has initiated operations with the launch of Omega-3 Fish Oil 1000mg softgels in bulk and as a bottled, retail-ready product. The US-made softgels contain 30 per cent total omega-3 fatty acids. The company also plans to introduce a bottled version of the same product under its own brand for retail stores and medical practitioners. US Omega is a minority-owned, Southern California-based business focused on delivering extraordinary value to the nutritional products industry; it is a key partner with Robinson Pharma.

Coconut oil for cooking and baking
Navitas Naturals Virgin Coconut Oil can be used as a 1:1 replacement for common oils or butters used for cooking and baking. Coconut oil is a cholesterol-free source of plant-based saturated fats, and it is rich in medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) — most notably lauric acid. Among the benefits of MCFAs are long-lasting energy; increased metabolic rates; and antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. Centrifuged coconut oil contains virtually no polyunsaturated fat and has about half of the undesirable mono-unsaturated fats compared to conventional coconut oils. At temperatures less than 75F, it is a pure white 'spoonable' solid. It can be easily melted into a clear liquid. It has a light tropical fragrance and buttery taste, which enhances both savoury and sweet dishes.

Coconut kefir sans dairy
A dairy-free and gluten-free kefir drink is now being sold in the Rocky Mountain region by inner-eco. The young green coconut kefir is best consumed before meals and at bedtime on an empty stomach. It can also be mixed with other beverages and at any time during the day. It is a natural, cultured, fermented probiotic made from the water inside young green coconuts combined with the kefir culture. It has been sweetened with stevia. A flavoured Super Strength version was launched at the start of the year in the flavours of goji, açai and strawberry lime.
