Teatulia Organic Teas has earned the number-one spot at the North American Tea Championship in this year’s herbal iced tea category. This win marks Teatulia’s third recognition as North American Tea Champions.
The Championship is the only independent competition, judged by tea professionals, to distinguish the highest quality and best tasting teas commercially available in the North American marketplace. The Iced Tea Class is evaluated once a year, and every submission is cupped blind and rated by flavor, body, color, clarity and balance. An overall numerical value on a 100‐point scale is calculated to get the winning teas. The results allow producers to understand how their tea compares to others through impartial judging by industry professionals, something that aids tremendously in marketing, operations and product development.
“We are more than thrilled to have received such an honor from our colleagues in the tea industry,” says cofounder and CEO of Teatulia, Linda Lipsius.
Last year, iced tea sales increased by 5 percent across all foodservice channels, making it the fourth fasting-growing beverage category, according to NPD. The increased popularity of iced tea can be attributed to its pro-health image and the growing variety offered by restaurants. Iced tea has now become the second most-consumed beverage in restaurants after water. By 2016, Mintel expects to see a 50 percent increase in iced tea beverage sales.
Teatulia’s Hibiscus Iced Tea brings out the natural lemony-tanginess and berry-rich flavors of the alluring hibiscus flower. Recognizing the growing trend towards herbal iced teas, Director of Marketing and New Product Development Chris Olsen sought to develop an iced tea blend that was different yet complementary to cuisines. “The Hibiscus Iced Tea is truly a unique beverage that shows our dedication to producing the highest-quality teas,” says Olsen.
Teatulia offers a full line of hot and iced tea drinks. The award winning iced tea can be found at all Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill restaurants.
