Heavy computer time? Lutein can protect eyes

Lutein, a nutrient in green leafy vegetables and winter squash known for its eye-healthy properties, may protect eyes from damage associated with long-term computer use. In the study, individuals taking lutein supplements for 12 weeks improved their visual performance. Lutein has also been shown to reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration, one of the leading causes of blindness in people over age 60.
