Canvas bags are terrific, don't get me wrong. But I'm starting to wonder if the scramble to be eco-minded is leading to an overabundance of those, too. For example, here I am, on the final day of a terrific tradeshow, and I'm loaded down with product information and samples that ALL came in canvas bags. I must have five new canvas bags to add to my 15+ stash waiting for me at home. There is no way that I will ever be able to buy enough groceries to fill up my bags. Sure, they're not made from petrochemicals like plastic, but it's still wasteful. So how do we reduce the redundancy and do away with the obsolescence--even if our motives are admirable?
