Perhaps the weasel had all the berries and the monkey needed to lose a few pounds.
Japanese white mulberries help overweight adults lose weight according to a study published in the Journal of Biological Regulators and Homeostatic Agents. The research was mentioned on foodconsumer.org.
For the study, 46 overweight women followed a nutritionally balanced low-calorie diet (1300 kcal/day) for 90 days. Half the subjects took extract of Japanese white mulberry and half did not.
The subjects who got the mulberry extract lost much more weight than the ones who did not.
The participants who received the supplement lost about ten percent of their initial weight, while those who did not, lost about three percent of their initial body weight. Plus, the women who took the supplement slimmed their waist and thigh circumference more significantly than those who didn’t take the mulberry extract.
The study’s authors conclude: “The extract of white Japanese mulberry may represent a reliable adjuvant therapy in the dietetic treatment of some patients who are obese or overweight.”
The Great and Powerful Oz promoted mulberry on “The Dr. Oz Show” in Sept. 2013 as “the next big thing for your health."
