Schiff Nutrition International, formerly Weider Nutrition, announced 2.4% growth for its 2008 fiscal year. Net sales climbed to $177 million, up from $173 million the previous year. Schiff’s fourth quarter sales were up 17% to $50.4 million, adding $7.2 million in new sales compared to the 2007 fiscal fourth quarter.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Bruce Wood, noted that Schiff is actively trying to expand its operations, “During the quarter, we pursued a potentially significant acquisition. While we were not successful, this undertaking underscores our intent to explore strategic opportunities we believe will build shareholder value. In the meantime, we remain committed to our branded and private label strategies, which we believe will result in sales growth in fiscal 2009.”
NBJ recently included Schiff in its list of Top 50 Supplement Manufacturers in the U.S. Schiff’s sales ranked them within the Top 10 supplement manufacturers in 2007. Schiff’s recent success has been attributed to continued growth from branded products as well as new growth in its private label division. Wood also noted that Schiff’s margins have been negatively affected by rising raw materials costs.
