Conference covers tocotrienols, carotenoids in red palm oil

Malaysian Palm Oil Council held a two-day scientific conference and forum on tocotrienols and carotenoids from red palm oil.

Carotech Inc., the world’s largest and only GMP-certified palm tocotrienol/mixed carotene producer is pleased to announce that as a result of a significant increase in awareness due to Dr. Oz advocating of red palm oil, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) held a two-day scientific conference and forum on tocotrienols and carotenoids from red palm oil May 20 to 21 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The conference’s tocotrienol theme was “Science Streamed Towards Disease Prevention,” while sessions on palm carotenoids focused on “New Challenges & Opportunities.”

With Carotech/Hovid as one of the main sponsors of the conference, MPOC has invited renowned researchers all over the world to present the latest scientific breakthroughs and clinical results of natural full spectrum palm tocotrienol/tocopherol complex.

The plenary lectures were dedicated to tocotrienols in brain health (i.e., europrotection) by two leading researchers, Prof. Dr. Chandan Sen of Ohio States University Medical Center and Prof. Dr. KH Yuen of University Science Malaysia, School of Pharmaceutical Science.

Both Prof. Dr. Sen and Prof. Dr Yuen have been actively involved in research of palm tocotrienol complex (Tocomin SupraBio®) in the areas of absorption, bioavailability, pharmacokinetic, human tissue distribution and brain protection for the past 13 years, from in vitro, small animal and large animal models, as well as human clinical trials.

“This is a great acknowledgement from MPOC and the board members. We are proud that our joint research with both Prof. Dr. Sen and Prof. Dr. Yuen presented the latest science and clinical results on Tocomin SupraBio at the conference as plenary lectures,” said Mr. WH Leong, vice president of Carotech Inc.

In addition, the scientific conference has attracted leading alternative health experts, holistic pharmacists, formulators of nutritional supplement companies, such as Dr. Bryce Wylde—who was on the Dr. Oz Show advocating red palm oil with tocotrienols and mixed carotenoids—Dr. Sherry Torkos, Dr. Felicia Stroler and Dr. Shawn Talbot of MonaVie. Dr PeilIn Guo of Jarrow Formulas was also in attendance as part of Carotech’s invited delegates.

“I am very thrilled that hot on the heel of Dr. Oz’s show, MPOC has recognized the importance of disseminating the science of palm tocotrienol and mixed carotenoid complexes, via this timely conference. This is definitely the perfect conference for researchers, scientists, medical doctors and nutritional supplement companies to interact and learn the science, health benefits and potential business opportunities on palm tocotrienols and carotenes complexes,” added Bryan See, regional product manager of Carotech Inc.

As part of the conference, attendees such as medical doctors, alternative health experts and pharmacists had the opportunity to visit tropical forests and plantations to witness for themselves the sustainable practices of palm oil plantation in Peninsular Malaysia.
