Australian Supplement Sales Bounce Back in '04

Q&A with consultant Robert Forbes

NBJ: What is the size of the Australian market for complementary medicine products?

RF: There are no formal audits of the health food industry in Australia. Pharmacy wholesale figures and supermarket withdrawal data are available, but there are no hard statistics for the health food store category. Based on industry knowledge and experience, I’d say the best estimate for current annual retail sales of complementary medicines in Australia is approximately $845 million
