Due to be released last December, the overdue and long-awaited regulations are now in the final stages, NBJ sources confirmed. The Chinese government banned direct selling in 1998 in response to, and in fear of, numerous fly-by-night operators and pyramid schemes, but later modified its stance to allow a handful of major direct sales companies, such as Amway, MaryKay
