One issue that could potentially negatively impact retailers of natural & organic offerings is the current U.S. economic downturn. Consumer confi dence in the economy plunged 17% from the second half of 2007 to the fi rst half of 2008, according to a survey released May 30 by Nielsen Co. Furthermore, 85% of Americans now believe the country is in a recession and 35% say the economy is their biggest worry.
