Surveys Reveal Consumer Preferences in Bar Consumption

Q&A with Keith Parle, Director of Functional Foods Sales & Strategic Development at Kerry Sweet Ingredients.

NBJ: How would you describe trends in healthy foods in the U.S.?

KP: Increases in protein and fiber and in organic are key trends. Also experiencing growth are 100-calorie packs. Nutritional intrinsic bar sales have slowed over the past year and are now almost even with same period 52 weeks ago. We are seeing growing interest in organic bar ingredients and fruit-containing and indulgent caramel bar layers. Low-carb products continue to slide versus last year.
