Nielsen-Massey Vanillas completes new facility

Vanilla and flavor producer Nielsen-Massey has tripled the size of its manufacturing plant in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. The newly renovated facility has more office and production space. The need for expansion is a result of Nielsen-Massey’s yearly double-digit production growth.

“We are thrilled about the many opportunities this new plant offers us,” said Matt Nielsen, managing director for Nielsen-Massey Vanillas International B.V. “Our increased production capabilities will enable us to keep up with growth, enter new markets and keep more product on-hand and warehoused to effectively meet our customers’ needs.”

The family-owned and -operated company also expanded its headquarters in Waukegan, Ill., USA, in January 2012.

Builder Jorritsma Bouw West B.V. renovated the facility in Leeuwarden with a budget of almost €3 million, financed through Deutsche Bank Nederland NV. Updates to the plant, which is currently operational, include:

· Dedicated areas for production, packaging and warehousing, which enable the company to comply with strict quality certification requirements for reducing the potential for product contamination
· New automated processing system provides more accurate and efficient batch processing
· Four times more office space

Started in 1907, Nielsen-Massey Vanillas has been in operation for over 100 years and occupied its previous manufacturing facility in Leeuwarden for 18 years. There are currently nine employees at the plant, but the company anticipates staff expansion in the near future. The company plans to install a demo/teaching kitchen in phase two of construction.
