Forget those dry, cardboard-tasting granolas of yesteryear. Granola has undergone an indulgent makeover, making many of today’s products more gourmet than grungy. We’re talking winning combinations of nutrition and flavor such as dark chocolate chunks and macadamia nuts combined with rolled oats and omega-3-rich flaxseeds.

And given granola’s new gourmet positioning, it’s no surprise that 77 percent of cold-cereal eaters now fill their bowls with granola or muesli, according to Chicago-based market research firm Mintel.

Whether they eat it for breakfast or as a snack, granola connoisseurs are assured balanced nutrition, especially as the category continues to push the innovation envelope by incorporating unexpected ingredients ranging from whey protein to probiotics. Consider these exciting new options for your store.
