Demand has soared across the globe for a pan-European quality guide for food supplements created by trade organisation the European Federation of Associations of Health Product Manufacturers (EHPM).
Developed by a team of technical experts for EHPM, the ‘Quality Guide for Food Supplements’ is the first pan-European guide of its kind, building on many existing national guides that have been developed by the trade organisation’s member associations over the past ten years.
The guide has been created as a tool for all food supplement companies – from those that have their products contract manufactured to those that solely distribute products – to help them comply with EU laws and ensure the production of high quality products.
Since its release in November last year it has been distributed across Europe, and has seen hundreds of requests for copies coming in from the European industry as well as the international sector, including companies in the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Argentina and across South East Asia.
“We are delighted that our guide has proved so popular both within Europe and internationally,” said EHPM Chairman Peter van Doorn. “It is testament to the fact that the practices being initiated within the EU are being closely reviewed across the globe. We hope this guide will be a step towards achieving and maintaining a high and consistent level of quality for food supplements across the 27 countries of the EU.”
The guide details both the legal and recommended production requirements from raw materials to finished products, including manufacturing, quality control, packaging, distribution and storage. Its recommended requirements are based on examples of best practices, to help maintain the safe and consistent production of high quality supplements across the EU.
The European Federation of Associations of Health Product Manufacturers (EHPM) was created in 1975 and represents 2000 specialist health product manufacturers across Europe. EHPM works to provide consumers with safe, science-based, high quality products as well as accurate and helpful information about their nutritional value and use.
