Stock up now: relaxation beverages

Jones GABA
Brought to you by the same manufacturer of soda flavors like Blue Bubble Gum and Turkey & Gravy, this product uses fruit juices, honey and natural cane sugar to sweeten slow drinks in flavors like Fuji Apple and Nectarine. Each serving includes 150 mg of the amino acid GABA to promote relaxation, according to the company.

Mary Jane’s Relaxing Soda
This carbonated drink contains passionflower extracts along with natural cane sugar for a taste the company says is a cross between cola and sweet tea. The active relaxation ingredient is kava root, which the company claims will help the customer feel noticeable effects within 30 minutes.

RelaxZen
Unlike most other slow drinks, this beverage comes in 2.5-ounce “shot” bottles. There’s a day formula—containing the amino acids L-theanine, L-threonine and GABA, vitamins B6 and B12, passionflower and acai extract—and a night version, which eliminates the passionflower and acai but adds pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), chamomile, valerian root and melatonin to enhance restful sleep, according to the company.

Slow Cow
Taking a direct shot at Red Bull with its name, one can of this Canadian beverage is equivalent to “a relaxation session,” “an acupuncture session” and “a one-week vacation,” according to the company. Its ingredients include 25 mg of L-theanine, 75 mg each of chamomile, passionflower and valerian, and 50 mg each of linden and hops, as well as sodium and potassium.
