Functional foods, exotic flavors and customizable snacks have captured the curiosity of Americans, according to data that Google has collected about what we’ve been typing into our internet browsers.

To give product developers, chefs and marketers a glimpse into consumer trends, the tech company examined search volumes related to food and compiled the 2016 Google Food Trends U.S. report. Some of the trends that floated to the top are ones the natural products industry knows well—for example, that the turmeric market is hot but consumers still have a lot of questions about it. The report also reveals some insights that could guide in-store and digital outreach for your health food store. Is there an opportunity to educate shoppers on the questions they’re searching for?
