It’s no secret that veganism is on the rise. And as these consumers look for foods to strengthen their diets and help build lean muscle, expect more high-protein claims on meat-free foods. Already, these types of claims posted 54 percent growth between 2007 and 2012, according to Mintel.
On the other end of the spectrum, the popularity of the Paleo diet, which encourages eaters to choose animal and plant products and to cut out grains, refined sugar and dairy, might drive growth in an entirely new category: savory bars and cookies that use meat as the primary ingredient. The name of the game for both vegans and Paleo enthusiasts is convenience, so expect more grab-and-go foods and snacks that make it easy to get protein on the run.
Little wonder why we're seeing high-protein foods pop up on every aisle.
