Kemin Health, LC will present the latest research on Macular Pigment Optical Density and its relationship to the eye health market during Supply Side East, April 26-28 in Secaucus, New Jersey. Research on Slendesta® Potato Extract will also be presented during the poster reception on Wednesday, April 28 at Supply Side East.

Technical services manager, Justin Green, Ph.D., will present “Macular Pigment Optical Density (MPOD) – A Potential for Growth in the Eye Care Market.” MPOD is an optical indicator of retinal concentrations of lutein and zeaxanthin and is a measurement of the attenuation of blue light by macular pigment. Research suggests that the measurement of macular pigment has the potential to become a commonly tested biomarker to assess risk for eye disease and visual function. The awareness of MPOD and its measurement technologies are growing among eye care practitioners and consumers. Because of this, it is becoming more important for manufacturers to deliver on promised health benefits on product labels and formulate with a quality lutein ingredient that can assure delivery to beneficial sites of action – including the macula, where lutein and zeaxanthin are quantified as MPOD.
