Cyanotech to launch Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica label redesign using FiberStone materials

Celebrating Earth Day, Cyanotech Corporation, a world leader in producing high-value nutrition and health products from microalgae, today announced a package redesign, enhanced product nutrition and an agreement with Natural Source Partners to use FiberStone(R) for its redesigned Nutrex label launch planned in July.

Nutrex's package redesign is part of its commitment to improving consumer awareness of the benefits of Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica(R), a green Superfood known as the "most complete natural food source in the world." One serving has more antioxidants than five servings of fruits and vegetables. Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica has the highest nutritional content of any Spirulina due to its exceptional growing conditions and patented cultivation methods. Water is a critical component of Nutrex's cultivation strategy. All Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica is cultivated in an environment most similar to nature using 100% potable drinking water from Hawaiian aquifers and pure deep ocean water with 94 trace minerals. The closed systems ensure the maximum amount of water is recycled, minimizing traditional water waste. Nutrex also uses deepsea ocean water to cool its buildings.

Commenting on the agreement with Natural Source Partners, Andrew H. Jacobson, Cyanotech President and CEO, said, "We are thrilled to have discovered FiberStone since it perfectly complements our commitment and respect for the world's water sources while also delivering functional packaging. We are the first supplement company to utilize this innovative technology." He went on to add that, "managing the Planet's natural resources is the responsibility of us all. Companies use labels every day. Think of how many trees and how much water could be saved if companies switched to FiberStone."

FiberStone is a line of tree-free, water-free, low-carbon-footprint papers that come from an abundant renewable, sustainable resource -- limestone. Natural Source Partners has been producing labels, unit cartons, POP displays, casepacks, brochures, catalogs, annual reports and high quality pressure sensitive labels on the stone paper material.

Mary Loyer, President of Natural Source Partners, states, "Our vision is to help companies achieve their environmental and sustainability goals. As companies embrace greater responsibilities for environmental concerns, they are seeking resources to help them along that path. More and more green conscious companies are focusing on sustainable and low carbon footprint materials.

"Our unique FiberStone Tree-Free Papers have a carbon footprint that is at least 1/3 that of virgin paper, and half that of recycled paper. The production of FiberStone Papers uses no water in processing, no trees, no chemicals, and very little energy to produce.

"Right now calcium carbonate is used as a whitening agent for regular virgin and recycled paper, but people have discovered that it can replace virgin or recycled paper altogether. To the touch, it feels like a regular coated paper. And because it doesn't require water to manufacture, it saves more than just trees."
