Cyvex Nutrition has announced that it has begun offering Alfalfa 95%, a sodium copper chlorophyllin ingredient derived from the nutritionally rich alfalfa plant. Alfalfa 95% is suitable for food, beverage and supplement formulations and joins Cyvex's line of "green" antioxidant offerings including Alfapro™ juice protein, as well as its signature broccoli-based ingredients. In addition, Alfalfa 95% is the first naturally derived green colorant.
Chlorophyllin is a water-soluble, stabilized and more bio-available derivative of chlorophyll green pigment. Historically, it has been used to neutralize a range of body odors and address digestive tract issues. In vitro studies have reported chlorophyllin's role as an active antioxidant, its detoxifying potential to eliminate harmful toxins and carcinogens from the body, and its positive effects as a topical application to promote wound healing. In combination with peppermint oil ingredients, chlorophyll has also been used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
"As an ingredient supplier specializing in fruit- and vegetable-sourced ingredients, we are thrilled to offer Alfalfa 95% as a premium, diverse and exceptionally bioavailable source of chlorophyll," stated Matt Phillips, President, Cyvex Nutrition. "We are confident in its success as consumers become increasingly aware of chlorophyll's health benefits and look for its inclusion in functional foods, enhanced beverages and dietary supplements."
