Enzymotec to launch Crill at upcoming exhibitions
Enzymotec, developer and manufacturer of lipid-based biofunctional solutions for orthomolecular medicine, dietary supplements and advanced infant nutrition plans to launch Crill at the upcoming the SupplySide East and Vitafoods shows. Crillwas developed to fulfill the growing demand for added value DHA products with better delivery system. The product is phospholipid-based, richer in DHA than Krill Oil and offered in attractive price.
Naturex adjusts its strategy
Avignon, France-based Naturex has repositioned its corporate identity in order to support the group's specialization and expansion in its different markets. The company will now operate through business units based on the group's three main areas of activity — food and beverage, nutrition and health, and personal care. The company's logo, graphics and commercial literature will reflect the change.
Burgundy acquires Cognis' botanicals extracts business
Burgundy Botanical Extracts has completed their acquisition of the botanical extracts business of Cognis, Division Nutrition and Health. Cognis' two production facilities in Spain are now a part of the Burgundy Group. Pharmline Inc., who has been Burgundy's partner in the US since 2003 will remain the exclusive distributor in North America of Burgundy's products for the functional food, beverage and dietary supplement industries.

ADM annnounced appointments in corn processing and global oilseeds
Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) has named Tedd Kruse vice president, Corn Processing, and Duane Holz general manager, North American Food Oils. Kruse will be responsible for sales and marketing for corn-based sweeteners in North America, and will report to Dennis Riddle, president, Corn Processing. He joined ADM in 1993 as a grain merchandiser and most recently served as vice president, North American Food Oils. Holz will be responsible for commercial activities related to ADM's North American Food Oils business. He will report to Mark Zenuk, vice president, Global Oilseeds. Holz joined ADM in 1998 and has held various positions within the Company's North American and European oils businesses. He most recently served as general manager of European Oils and Fats in Rolle, Switzerland.
Indena receives bontanical excellence award
The 4th Annual American Botanical Celebration and Awards Ceremony took place on March 5 in Anaheim, California. The ceremony featured the presentation of the annual ABC Botanical Excellence Awards, honoring individuals and companies with a great impact on the present and future of the herbal medicine movement. Indena was named the recipient of the ABC Varro E. Tyler Commercial Investment in Phytomedicinal Research Award.
Sabinsa Receives AHPA Herbal Industry Leader Award, Majeed Elected to Board
Sabinsa was awards the 2009 Herbal Industry Leader Award from the American Herbal Products Association during the AHPA annual meeting on March 5 in Anaheim, California. At the same meeting Shaheen Majeed, Sabinsa's Marketing Director, was elected to the AHPA Board of Directors for a three-year term.
Jarrow donates to AIDS programme
Jarrow Formulas, headquartered in Los Angeles, California, has donated more than 1,650 bottles of vitamins to the AIDS Project Los Angeles Necessities of Life Program. It included 994 bottles of ToxGuard Colon PF and 657 bottles of Hemp Seeds. AIDS Project Los Angeles is dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by HIV disease, reducing the incidence of HIV infection, and advocating for fair and effective HIV-related public policy.
Sales report at Cactus Botanics
Turnover in 2008 was double that of 2007, according to Cactus Botanics of China, and its top-three ingredients sales in quantity were spirulina powder, konjac glucomannan and dandelion powder extract. In value, top-three sales were policosanol, fucoidan and helicidum. In 2008, the company launched a new US branch, 3 Q World in New York City, to improve its service in North America.
ISO certification granted
InterHealth Nutraceuticals, a supplier of proprietary and branded ingredients, has received ISO 9001:2000 certification. Conformance to ISO 9001-2000 quality assurance was authorized by T?VRheinland, a global provider of independent testing and certification services. The company's products include Super CitriMax, a weight-management and satiety ingredient; ChromeMate, a niacin-bound chromium product; and UC-II, an all-natural ingredient for joint health.
GRAS status for Sytrinol
KGK Synergize has received self-affirmed GRAS status for its flagship product, Sytrinol. An independent panel of experts, assembled by AIBMR Life Sciences, reviewed the product's profile for safety and approved its self-affirmed status. Sytrinol, a proprietary ingredient clinically proven to improve cholesterol levels, can now be safely added to food and beverage products.
Organic land purchase in Mexico
Organics Unlimited, provider of organic bananas, has recently expanded its operations in Colima, Mexico, with the addition of a new warehouse and administrative offices. The company bought 100 hectares of land in Colima, Mexico, to expand the production of organic bananas. The land combines three parcels in the areas that have never been farmed, leaving it in a natural state for early organic certification.
Joint venture for astaxanthin
ADM and Igene Biotechnology have formed a joint venture, Naturxan LLC, to produce natural-source astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is an antioxidant that imparts the characteristic red colour to farmed fish. Although synthetic astaxanthin sources are available, they are derived from nonrenewable petrochemicals. Naturxan's natural-source astaxanthin is produced through fermentation using natural Phaffia yeast, and because no solvent extraction processes are applied during production, there are no chemical residues. The product has been approved as a feed ingredient in Chile, Canada, the US, Japan and Europe.
Phase 2 supplier in Japan
Pharmachem Laboratories' Phase 2 Carb Controller ingredient (formerly known as Phaseolamin in Japan) will be distributed exclusively in Japan by Asahi Godo of Kyoto, established in 1966 with headquarters in Kyoto and offices in Tokyo and Seoul, as well as a GMP packaging factory in Shizuoka, Japan.
Austral Group wins eco-award
The Peruvian company Austral Group, a sister company of EPAX AS, has won the Fourth National Peruvian Responsible Management contest in the award category of Cleanest, Most Eco-Efficient Production. The recognition is largely a result of the company's Environmental Management System Model, an impact-reducing production method successfully implemented in all its plants. The Austral Group and EPAX AS are both subsidiaries of the industrial pelagic fishery group, Austevoll Seafood ASA.
Vivinal GOS earns GRAS status
Whey and milk-based ingredients specialist Friesland Foods Domo has earned GRAS status for its prebiotic ingredient, Vivinal GOS, from the FDA. As a result, Vivinal GOS can now be used in infant formula and other food categories. Vivinal GOS is Friesland's prebiotic ingredient consisting principally of galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS), which are known to stimulate growth of healthy bacteria in the stomach.
