Gaia Herbs Announces Expanded Sales and Marketing Team


One of the few vertically integrated manufacturers of organic supplements in the United States announced a new set of changes to their management team including the appointments of a Vice President of Sales and a Vice President of Marketing, and the creation of new regional sales management and educational leadership positions. This expanded leadership structure is designed to provide a solid foundation for strong projected growth over the next five years.

Angela Guerrant joined Gaia Herbs as Vice President of Sales. Angela started in the natural products industry 14 years ago as a retailer and has spent the last 5 years with Enzymatic Therapy, where she served as Director of Sales. Her tenure at ET was spent building national and regional retail partnerships, supporting and empowering the sales team, and celebrating strong sales and best practices.

Ann Griffen Buchman was promoted to Vice President of Marketing and will be expanding the department to include new brand management, integrated marketing, and graphics team members. She has served as Gaia Herbs’ National Marketing Director since June 2007. Ms. Buchman brings 16 years of consumer marketing experience to her position, having worked for CPG companies Eastman Kodak, Nestle Foods, McCormick & Company and as a founding principal in two marketing consulting firms.

Ms. Guerrant and Ms. Buchman join the already established senior management team of President/Founder/CEO, Ric Scalzo; CFO, Etson Brandenburg; and VP for Strategic Initiatives, Greg Cumberford.

Other appointments included the hiring of Bonnie Green as National Account Manager. Ms. Green comes to Gaia Herbs with extensive industry experience managing national customers, regional key accounts, and leading high performance sales teams. She managed the Whole Foods Market business nationally for Enzymatic Therapy and spent several years as a Regional Sales Manager for Zia Skincare. Most recently she was Director of Sales for Ribbon Nutrition.

With over 16 years in the Natural Products Industry, Ginger Dawn has been appointed Western Regional Sales Manager. Ms. Dawn worked for Enzymatic Therapy for 3+ years, first as a sales rep, and then as a key account manager and mentor for the Western Sales Team.

Mark Nathan has been appointed the Eastern Regional Sales Manager. Mr. Nathanhas served as the Gaia Sales Manager since 2001, including the positions of National Sales Manager and National Key Accounts Manager. He has worked in the natural products industry in retail management since 1988.

In conjunction with the sales and marketing focus, Gaia has strengthened its herbal education platform through two additional appointments. The educational leadership positions are filled by Bill Chioffi for the Eastern US and Omar Cruz in the Western US. Mr. Chioffi has worked in the Natural Products Industry for fifteen years as a natural products retail department manager, and most recently as a Regional Manager and Educator for Gaia Herbs. For the past 6 years Mr. Cruz has served as a sales representative, trainer, and Director of the Professional Solutions Division at Gaia Herbs. He managed a pharmacy within a health food store chain for four years and has extensive botanical experience through clinical and research programs. Mr. Chioffi and Mr. Cruz will travel in their respective regions delivering herbal education training to Gaia Herbs sales representatives, retail and professional customers, and the public.

Gaia Herbs is a certified organic grower and nationally-branded manufacturer of botanical medicines based in Western North Carolina. The company cultivates 250 acres of medicinal herbs which, along with all operations at their 36,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility, are organically certified each year by Oregon Tilth under USDA’s National Organic Program. Gaia Herbs’ line of all-natural herbal products is carried by national and regional natural products retail chains, as well as independent health food retailers.
