GTC Nutrition Forms Strategic Alliance with Ganeden Biotech Inc.

GTC Nutrition, a business unit of Corn Products International, Inc., today announced that that it has formed a strategic alliance with Ganeden Biotech, Inc., a Cleveland-based consumer healthcare company and manufacturer of patented strains of probiotics.

Through the alliance, the companies plan to work together to innovate in the development of prebiotic and probiotic ingredients, key ingredients for healthy digestive and immune systems.

The alliance underscores the companies' shared vision of improving quality of life through innovative food ingredient solutions. A combination of GTC Nutrition's scientific and technical expertise in the area of prebiotic fiber ingredients and Ganeden Biotech's leadership in probiotic products and supplements will accelerate the development and distribution of highly effective ingredient combinations and end-product development in support of digestive and immune health.

Andrew Lefkowitz, Ganeden's President and CEO, commented: "Partnering with an industry leader such as GTC Nutrition will enable us to broaden the applications of GanedenBC30 into more functional foods and beverages, nutraceuticals and animal health applications. The experience, knowledge and high standard of quality that GTC Nutrition brings to the digestive health market further supports our commitment to provide superior formulations to our given markets."

Probiotics are "good for you" bacteria that are similar to the good bacteria found naturally in the body's digestive tract that can support healthy digestive and immune systems. Prebiotics serve as food for probiotics. A prebiotic is a non-digestible carbohydrate that works in the intestines to nourish and stimulate the growth of the good bacteria, which in turn helps to maintain a healthy digestive environment. Prebiotics and probiotics work synergistically to maintain healthy digestion and support immune system strength.

"We are excited to partner with a healthcare company that shares a vision of improving quality of life through healthy ingredient fortification," said Patrick Smith, president of GTC Nutrition. "By integrating our unique strengths, we will accelerate our business and growth opportunities by capitalizing on the unique opportunities and synergies that these innovative ingredients provide."
