Chicago, IL - The International Probiotics Association (IPA) announced that it has surpassed the 30 Global Industry Member milestone, with many additional companies slated to join in 2008. Since 2005, the time when IPA became a fully active organization, the field of probiotics has exploded with new products and garnered increased interest from major functional food and beverage companies around the world. Due to the flood of new products containing “good bacteria,” IPA’s immediate focus is to assist international regulatory agencies in establishing guidelines for probiotic products on the market. IPA, along with its 30+ Industry Members, are regularly asked to present at international probiotic conferences, trade shows, and other events. “It is important for IPA to keep the focus on the science of probiotics and their documented health benefits, therefore we are selective about which events we participate in,” said Ioannis Misopoulos, IPA’s Executive Director.
IPA is hosting the first IPA World Congress on April 11th – 12th 2008, at the Beverly Hills Hilton, a meeting which will bring health professionals, academia and industry professionals together under one roof for two days of presentations on probiotic-related topics. The meeting is also endorsed by the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA). The scientific program, hotel information, as well as online registration for this event are available at www.ipaworldcongress.com.
