As Nutrition Business Journal explored in our 2009 Raw Material & Ingredient Supply Report, adulterated ingredients are making their way into the U.S. dietary supplement market, and the problem is escalatingdespite the rollout of the U.S. Food and Drug Administrations (FDAs) good manufacturing practice (GMP) rules, which were designed to identify and eliminate problem or suspect dietary supplement ingredients. But the herbal supplement company Gaia Herbs has unveiled a new ingredient traceability program that is designed to prove to its customers that the raw materials in its products are safe, pure and exactly what they claim to be. NBJ Editorial Director Carlotta Mast sat down with Gaia Herbs Founder and CEO Ric Scalzo and the companys medical director, Keri Marshall, ND, during the 2010 Natural Products Expo West to talk about Gaia Herbs new program, which is being called Meet Your Herbs.
