It is rich in galactosyl subunits, which contribute to its known ability to interfere with the binding properties of cancer cell-surface proteins called galectins. PectaSol is the only brand of modified citrus pectin that has been successfully tested in human clinical trials, EcoNugenics reports. It is also recognized for its ability to promote normal cholesterol levels, causing significant decreases in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), apolipoprotein a & b, and lipoprotein(a).
