Nisshin Seifun Launches Domestically Produced Organic Barley Yuuki Aojiru via Mail Order

Nisshin Pharma Inc., part of the Nisshin Seifun Group Inc., will launch “Yuuki Aojiru (Organic Green Juice)” (JPY 3,800/3 g x 30 sachets) via mail order on 1 October 2008. The product is made using domestically produced organic barley, and the dried organic barley leaf powder contained in each 3 g sachet is equivalent to about 30 g of the vegetable. The product has cleared the strict standards to become organic JAS mark-approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. This is a standard only applied to processed organic foodstuffs that have been grown on land that has been completely free of agricultural chemicals and chemical fertilizers for at least two years. The growing of the barley leaves, as well as the entire manufacturing process for this product, is carried out in Kyushu; contracts have been made with farms to carry out the process from seed planting to processing to packing. The product is made using only young barley leaves that have not yet eared, which are rich in nutritional value. In order to preserve the leaves’ freshness, they are dried within one hour of harvesting. The dry leaves are then powdered and used as the raw material for the finished product
