Study: Carotenoids and vitamins and risk of skin cancer

Research presented in the European Journal of Cancer 2007,43:18 2707-2716 ( entitled: "Intake of antioxidant nutrients and the risk of skin cancer" examines the effect of three carotenoids and two vitamins and the risk of skin cancer, specifically the associations between intake of antioxidant nutrients and risk of basal cell (BCC) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) of the skin.

The researchers examined Lutein, Zeaxanthin, B-carotene, Vitamin C and Vitamin E, determining that dietary intake of lutein and zeaxanthin combined was associated with an inverse trend of SCC risk in persons with a skin-cancer history.
