Study shows GutGard promotes gut health

Standardized extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra shown to keep gut microflora in check.

Natural Remedies, a leading herbal dietary ingredient manufacturer, announced successful publication of an in vitro study demonstrating the anti-Helicobacter pylori activity of its novel branded ingredient GutGard®, a standardized extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra, for managing the symptoms of functional dyspepsia. The study has been published in the Journal of Ethanopharmacology 145 (2013) 581-586 and is titled “In vitro anti-H.pylori activity of a flavonoid rich extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra and its probable mechanisms of action”.

Various scientific studies earlier have established beneficial activity of flavonoids of licorice for gut health.  H. pylori, a Gram-negative bacteria, is the leading cause of peptic ulcer. The recent study reported that, GutGard acts against H. pylori possibly by inhibiting protein synthesis, DNA gyrase and dihydrofolate reductase.
