Amin Talati talks IP at GOED Exchange

Patent agent George Carrera’s presentation, “Patent Mapping,” is part of the panel discussion titled "Omega-3s and Intellectual Property Challenges."

George Carrera, a registered patent agent at Amin Talati, an FDA, FTC, patent, trademark, licensing and litigation firm in Chicago, for the food, beverage, dietary supplement and medical device industries, is presenting at GOED Exchange 2014 in Salt Lake City. The event will be held Feb. 4 to 6, 2014.

GOED Exchange focuses on the business, scientific and regulatory issues surrounding the omega-3 industry. The event features panel discussions and focus groups aimed at education about the benefits of omega-3s, sustainability, and new uses of the ingredient.

Carrera’s presentation, entitled “Patent Mapping,” is part of the panel discussion titled "Omega-3s and Intellectual Property Challenges." It takes place 9:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 6.

Patent mapping falls within the broad category of competitive intelligence and intellectual asset management (IAM/IPAM). Patent information can be challenging to comprehend and summarize, so the thrust of the presentation is how to “define the landscape” for potential inventors and patent holders in the omega-3 category. The ultimate goal is development of a working patent map incorporating valuation targets and monetized assets (i.e., a “core patent” or product). The presentation summarizes key corporate data using visual media, software vendors, and analytical tools.
