Biothera names South Korean distributor

Naturalendo Tech Co. will be Biothera's exclusive distribution partner in South Korea following Naturalendo’s successful effort to secure regulatory approval for Wellmune.

Biothera, manufacturer of Wellmune WGP®, the natural immune booster for foods, beverages and supplements, announced the selection of Naturalendo Tech Co. Ltd. (Naturalendo) to be its exclusive distribution partner in South Korea following Naturalendo’s successful effort to secure regulatory approval for Wellmune.

Wellmune received an immune health claim and earned a Certificate of Functional Ingredient for Health/Functional Food in compliance with Article 14 and 15 of the Health Functional Food Act of the Republic of Korea from the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). Wellmune met all standards for safety and efficacy during the rigorous, nearly two-year approval process.

Naturalendo has deep expertise in supporting the commercialization of functional foods in Asia and the Americas and has been recognized with numerous awards from various ministries within the Korean government including the MFDS.

Wellmune is a beta 1,3/1,6 glucan derived from a proprietary strain of baker’s yeast. Nine human clinical studies consistently demonstrate the ability of Wellmune to safely boost key immune cells that keep the body healthy.

“The clinical evidence behind Wellmune will enable us to make a compelling case for including this outstanding ingredient in a wide range of food, beverage and supplement products,” said R&D Center Chief KT Yi, Naturalendo. “We are excited to share the many benefits of including Wellmune in the diet throughout the life cycle, whether supporting the developing immune system in young children to sports nutrition, helping people manage physical and psychological stressors, and supporting the aging of the immune system in our older population.”

Other immune enhancers cannot compare to the strong science backing Wellmune, Yi added, noting that Korea has one of the toughest regulatory environments in the world for functional ingredients.

“Achieving regulatory approval in Korea was a milestone for the Wellmune brand and a testament to the safety and efficacy of our proprietary ingredient,” said Richard G. Mueller, chief executive officer, Biothera. “With Naturalendo’s expertise and keen insights about the marketplace, we are excited about the potential for bringing a wide range of food, beverage and supplement products with Wellmune to consumers in Korea.”
