Astavita Seals Ficker Deal to Help Target the Female Athlete Market
Mount Laurel, February 12, 2007 – Astavita announced today a sponsorship deal with professional triathlete, Desiree Ficker. Astavita will be Ficker’s sponsor throughout the 2007 season.
Desiree Ficker, the poster girl from Austin, Texas, rattled the triathlon community by taking an impressive 2nd place at the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona, HI this past October. Desiree is also the first American female to stand on the podium since 1998.
“We are extremely proud to be sponsoring Desiree Ficker at this time in her career." commented Yasuko Kuroda, Vice President of Astavita. "Following her impressive performance in Kona at the Ironman World Championships we see an exciting year of competition ahead for this exceptional athlete."
Astavita is the world’s largest producer of the high potency antioxidant called AstaReal® astaxanthin. AstaReal has been found through research to help reduce muscle fatigue and improve recovery and endurance. AstaReal is an all-natural carotenoid which is supported by years of safety and application research.
Physical activity produces singlet oxygen which is the most damaging of all free radicals. The more intense the activity, the greater the number of these free radicals... which will in turn contribute to the damage of cells by triggering peroxidation of the cell membrane and oxidation of DNA and protein. Often we will notice the onset of muscle damage during recovery in the form soreness and fatigue. AstaREAL will help athletes to recover more quickly from intense workouts and better prepare them to continue training at a high level of intensity.
As part of the agreement, Desiree will participate in scheduled races over the next year sporting the Astavita logo on her apparel. She will also be invited to make appearances at a number of events where Astavita will be exhibiting to help promote the Astavita product line.
“I started using Astavita earlier this year and love the effects it has on both my skin and body”, commented Ficker. “As an athlete I want to work with companies who embody both professionalism and health awareness. I am so fortunate to be able to partner up with Astavita and am very much looking forward to our future together!"
