BI Nutraceuticals Continues to Raise Industry Standards for Ingredient Quality Control in Asia Pacific Region

Company Strengthens Services in China with Opening of Manufacturing Facility

LONG BEACH, Calif., June 14, 2007 - BI Nutraceuticals today announced that it has officially opened a 75,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China. The facility provides BI with additional manufacturing capacity, as well as a full-service quality assurance lab to test all extracts and ingredients purchased in the region to ensure they are free of contaminants prior to being shipped to the U.S. Additionally, facility staff will conduct vendor audits to support the company's Vendor Qualification Program. The Vendor Qualification Program outlines a series of aggressive benchmarks that raw material suppliers in the Asia Pacific region must meet before BI purchases any of their ingredients including adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices standards, random species identification testing and oversight of quality assurance processes.

"The most critical challenge facing a product manufacturer is buying raw materials that comply with their specifications, are pesticide free and non-adulterated. Ensuring this quality requires either a significant investment in professionals and laboratory equipment or choosing a supplier, like BI, that already has made this commitment and is globally positioned. Investing millions of dollars on marketing, advertising, time and goodwill can be jeopardized if a contaminated product gets onto shelves," emphasized George Pontiakos, President and CEO, BI Nutraceuticals. "The recent melamine contamination should reinforce to the entire natural products industry the importance of using suppliers that are committed to ensuring only the highest quality products are provided to our marketplace."

BI anticipates that the Suzhou China facility will be completely operational by late summer, with material processed at the facility available for sale in the U.S. by late fall.

"BI has always been at the forefront with our quality control procedures and our increased physical presence in China allows for an even higher quality, more consistent supply chain," added Pontiakos.

BI Nutraceuticals, with facilities in Long Beach, Calif., Islandia, N.Y. and Suzhou, China, is a global full-service supplier of dietary supplement and functional food ingredients including whole herb powders and teas, standardized and drug ratio extracts, custom blends, vitamins, minerals and other specialty supplements. BI also provides drum to hopper custom blends and granular, time-released and encapsulated ingredients. All ingredients undergo heavy metal, pesticide and irradiation testing, and herbal powders are also analyzed using BI's Identilok(R) species identification process.? The company has additionally developed UltraHD(R), a process which creates high-density herbal powders allowing for superior flow and less dusting during the manufacturing process. BI also offers steam sterilization via the company's Protexx HP(TM) process, which utilizes high pressure, super-heated dry steam to ensure ingredients maintain their color and active compounds without water saturation problems.
