MINNEAPOLIS - Cargill today announced that it has partnered with The Kroger Company, one of the nation's largest retail grocery chains, to develop and launch Active Lifestyle fat-free milk containing the CoroWise™ brand of plant sterols. The first-of-its-kind milk is available in all Kroger banner stores nationwide.
Plant sterols have been clinically shown to help lower cholesterol. Two eight-ounce servings of this milk, when consumed with meals, provide the minimum daily amount of plant sterols recognized by the Food and Drug Administration as providing a heart-healthy benefit, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol.* In addition, CoroWise™ plant sterols do not impact the taste or texture of this great-tasting milk.
"Kroger's Active Lifestyle fat-free milk with the CoroWise™ brand of plant sterols is an easy way for consumers to get cholesterol-reducing benefits along with the great taste and nutrition of a glass of milk," said Pam Stauffer, marketing programs manager, Cargill. "Cargill is committed to finding innovative ways to incorporate its beneficial ingredients into healthful foods that fit well into consumers' lifestyles. CoroWise™ Naturally Sourced Cholesterol Reducer plant sterols can now be found in a growing list of leading products, including muffin tops, orange juice, cereal, bars, bread, cheese and rice milk."
Cargill is also committed to helping its customers, such as Kroger, build awareness of products containing CoroWise plant sterols. "Cargill conducts outreach to consumers and healthcare professionals to communicate the health benefits of plant sterols and to make people aware of the consumer products that contain them," said Stauffer. "It's another way Cargill demonstrates its commitment to our customers' success."
*Foods containing at least 0.4 grams per serving of plant sterols, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 0.8 grams, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease. A serving of Active Lifestyle fat-free milk with plant sterols supplies 0.4g of plant sterols.
