Comvita Given $1m Relief in Manuka Honey Case

An NZPA report this week on a High Court at Tauranga decision gave the incorrect impression bee products company Comvita owed $2.5 million to Waikatolink.

Actually, the amount owed was $1m, as the bulk had already been paid.

While the court judgement, handed down last Friday by Justice Rhys Harrison, did say, as reported, Comvita had to pay a total of $2.5m, the fact $1.5m of this had already been paid was not mentioned until further down the story.

Justice Harrison said Waikatolink claimed judgment for $3.5m, but Comvita was entitled to set-off against this liability in the sum of $1m "by way of compensation for its loss or damage suffered as a result of Waikatolink's misleading or deceptive conduct ".
