Presented by Jon-Paul Powers
60 minutes, followed by a 30 minute Q&A session

Product development is often based on market information and consumer trends alone. Hot ingredients are mixed together and desired claims are printed on product labels without regulatory affairs being taken into account until it’s too late. This can result in the loss of a significant amount of time and money when your product is refused by the Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) after production is complete and the product is already on store shelves.

This course is prepared and delivered by Jon-Paul Powers (about the speaker), Ph.D., a former assessment officer of the NHPD, and will present business models for proper product development that will in the end minimize regulatory issues from arising and ultimately save your company time and money.

Raw materials will also be discussed from a regulatory perspective in order to determine the likelihood of product licensing. Raw material suppliers highlight the safety and health claims provided by their ingredients. However, the evidence provided may not be acceptable in the eyes of the Natural Health Products Directorate. Before purchasing any ingredient, product license applicants should perform their regulatory due diligence.

Anyone involved in new product development, regulatory affairs, business management, and purchasing is encouraged to attend this course. Individuals attending SupplySide West in Las Vegas in November are particularly encouraged to attend to ensure that they are ready to ask prospective suppliers the appropriate questions to avoid pitfalls down the road. Suppliers are also advised to attend to form a clear understanding of what their customers require from them when it comes to product registration.
