DSHEA: Retailer know-how

In addition to knowing what DSHEA does, retailers should know the following:

Manufacturers and distributors of dietary supplements must record, investigate and forward to the FDA any reports they receive of serious adverse events associated with the use of their products that are reported to them. Retailers are not usually required to submit a serious adverse event report, according to the FDA, unless 1) the retailer’s name appears on the supplement label and 2) the retailer has entered into an agreement with the manufacturer or packer of the dietary supplement transferring responsibility for submitting adverse event reports for the product to the retailer.
