DSM wins innovation award from Chinese Nutrition Society

DSM gets recognized for the strong support it offers to the academic community in product development and applications.

DSM China Ltd. has won the first Nutrition Innovation Gold Award issued by the Chinese Nutrition Society (CNS). This award is granted to DSM in recognition of its outstanding contribution to nutritional science by constantly enhancing and improving human nutrition and the strong support it offers to the academic community in product development and applications. DSM was also acknowledged for its excellent contribution to providing innovative nutritional solutions to meet the needs of specific groups.

"We are grateful to be recognized by the Chinese Nutrition Society for DSM’s achievements in the field of nutritional science,” said DSM China President Dr. Jiang Weiming. “By working with industry experts, academics and government organizations, we will continue to enhance our efforts in nutrition innovation and public health improvement to create brighter lives for people today and generations to come.”

DSM has been actively involved in promoting nutritional research and networking in the Chinese academic community since the 1990s, supporting conferences and sponsoring a number of nutritional studies. In recent years, for example, the DSM and CNS Research Foundation was established in 2011, a series of events celebrated the 100 years of vitamins anniversary last year and the DSM Science and Technology Award, Asia was held in China in 2013.

In addition to new product development and nutrition research collaboration, DSM also actively cooperates with various government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide innovative nutrition solutions to meet the needs of specific populations. For example, the China Women's Federation, the Ministry of Health and the China Children and Teenagers Foundation jointly launched the Infant Anemia Elimination program, where DSM provided nutrition sachets as the supplement for infants living in poor rural areas.

"As a global innovation pioneer in the field of nutrition, we are expecting to meet the growing needs of our local customers and accelerate the development of the Chinese nutrition industry through DSM’s innovative products and solutions,” said Leo Xie, vice president of DSM Nutritional Products, Human Nutrition & Health in China.

Presenting the award, CNS President Cheng Yiyong commented: "We are actively promoting research and innovation in the field of nutrition science, and we are committed to continuously improving people’s nutrition and health standards through working together with more enterprises in the future.”

The Nutrition Innovation Award  initiated by the CNS, aims to echo the spirits of promoting science in economic development proposed at the Eighth Congress of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology in 2011. It also targets to combine academic research and industrial development to promote innovation. This award was presented during the 11th CNS National Conference to inspire more corporations to make greater contributions in the research and development of nutrition and health products in China.

“Combining progress in nutrition science with market oriented R&D is a key element of our mission,” comments Dr. Manfred Eggersdorfer, senior vice president nutrition science and advocacy, DSM Nutritional Products. “We will continue to strive for ongoing, solid innovation in health and wellness, promoting an adequate nutrient intake and taking latest recommendations into account. This prestigious award confirms our approach and encourages us to proceed this way.”
