Morristown, N.J.-based bulk ingredient manufacturer Polifenoles Naturales and botanical extracts importer P.L. Thomas announced that Vladimir Badmaev, MD, PhD, has been appointed director of scientific and medical affairs for both companies.

Eberbach, Germany-based gelatin manufacturer Gelita announced the appointment of chief executive officer Franz Josef Konert, MD.

Galaxy Nutritional Foods of Orlando, Fla., added David Robinov as its executive vice president of operations and product development. Robinov has more than 30 years of experience in the natural products industry.

The Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s board of directors announced that Anthony Bimbo, a consultant for fish oil production company Omega Protein in Houston, is the recipient of the 2009 Industry Excellence Award. Bimbo helped establish one of the first fish oil refineries in the U.S. in Reedville, Va., where he directed the sales and operations.

Austin, Texas –based Whole Foods Market cofounder and CEO John Mackey has stepped down as chairman of the company. Lead director John Elstrott will take his place. Mackey will remain on the Whole Foods board and will also continue as the company’s CEO.
