From the Rooftops: The Power of a Collective Research and Promotion Program for Organic
Friday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Anaheim Marriott, Platinum Ballroom 1
Got organic? Now that Congress has passed a Farm Bill, it’s time for the organic sector to “officially” consider whether or not an Organic Research and Promotion Program is in our future. OTA’s advocacy efforts successfully removed the legislative barriers preventing the potential program from becoming a reality. Now, USDA is authorized to consider an application for a check-off program from the organic sector, should the sector choose to pursue such an application. The new Farm Bill also expands the exemption for organic operations from conventional check-off programs. Join us for a panel discussion reviewing the options for a program framework and be sure to weigh in!

OTA and The Center promote the science and value of organic Media event
One of the biggest myths of the organic debate, often perpetuated by mainstream media, goes something like this: Organic products are not affordable for budget-conscious families. Besides, there’s no proof they’re any better. The Organic Trade Association and The Organic Center will host a private media event in conjunction with Natural Products Expo West to dispel those illusions, and reach a potential audience of tens of millions with the simple message—Organic. It’s Worth It! To show the public just how worth it organic products are, OTA will offer menu ideas for all-organic breakfast, lunch and dinner, while The Organic Center will highlight their scientific benefits.
