Food co-ops, which are owned by their customers, have come a long way in the public's perception. Some, such as PCC Natural Markets in Greater Seattle, hold leadership positions in the Natural Products Association, while others, such as the Wheatsville Food Co-op in Austin, Texas, are planning to open new stores.
