New Hope Natural Media, based in Boulder, Colo., and Venice, Fla.-based Living Naturally jointly announced the results of the New Products Showcase awards competition held during Natural Products Expo East in Washington, D.C. In all, 212 new products were entered by 171 brands in six categories. Retailers voted for the top five finalists and the winners in each category using Living Naturally?s hand-held scanner system and a voting application built for Expo East. During the three-day event, 317 retailers cast 2,229 votes, topping previous Expo East records for retailer participation in the New Products Showcase awards.

Green/Environmentally Friendly—Malagasy Cinnamon Cassia with Cloves Bar Soap by Pangea Organics.
?New Hope?s goal is to serve up business solutions to the natural products industry, and with a renewed focus on new products, we hope to help the industry realize its full growth potential,? said Patrick Rea, director of eMedia for New Hope.
According to Rea, combining retailers? interest in new products with high-tech methodology will help retailers become more aware of the kind of technology available to them.
Also given out at Expo East was the Retail Order Award, which went to Jeff Becker of Naturway Natural Foods for a chain store. Valerie Deptula of Good Earth, a second-year winner for an independent store, donated her winning plane tickets from both years to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
The Gourmet Taste of Expo Awards in tea and jam went to Honest Tea for its Mango White Tea and to Crofters? Organic for its Morello Cherry Conserve, respectively. In the honey category, Really Raw?s Unheated and Unstrained Honey tied with Wee Bee?s Naturally Raw Honey.
