Reach female natural shoppers with Pinterest

Pinterest is one of the fastest growing social networks and the perfect place to market your natural store for free. Here are three tips to get started.

Have you jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon yet? The website that acts like a digital bulletin board is one of the fastest growing social networks—and the perfect place to market your store for free.

In fact, the site is now one of the top 30 U.S. websites based on total page views, according to Experian Hitwise. Whole Foods Market claims a top spot among all brands on Pinterest, with more than 20,000 followers.

Here are three tips for making Pinterest work for your store.

  • Social media news site Mashable reports that 68 percent of Pinterest users are female, and 50 percent have children. If moms are your primary customers, you can strike gold with Pinterest. Pin recipes, craft ideas and inspiring health tips to attract this crowd.
  • Start a pinboard of your weekly sales and specials by taking photos of the products and uploading them with the Pinterest app (free for iPhone). Then tell your Twitter followers and Facebook fans to track the board to get the latest updates.
  • Pinterest users often find new things to pin by searching board categories such as Food & Drink or Products. When you create new pins, they’ll show up in these categories, exposing your pins to all Pinterest users, not just your followers. Be sure to re-pin and comment on others’ pins to maximize exposure for your store.
