Recent survey shows how consumers approach shopping

According to a recent survey, today’s consumers approach shopping much like how businesses evaluate financial decisions. What does this mean for retailers?

According to a recent survey conducted by Jacksonville, Fla.–based marketing firm Acosta Marketing Group, today’s consumers approach shopping much like how businesses evaluate financial decisions: They research, plan and even look for ROI. As a result, retailers should strive to frequently offer value items, listen to shoppers’ needs, and establish a feeling of community via social media networks to build store loyalty. The following numbers from Acosta shed more light on why people buy:

72 percent

Shoppers who make lists for their routine shopping trips

48 percent

Shoppers who say they stock up on items when they’re on sale

31 percent

Shoppers who go online or use apps to save money

26 percent

Shoppers who say they’re spending less on groceries this year than they did last year
