Retailer roundtable: What incentives do you offer employees during the holidays?

NFM asks retailers what incentives they offer employees during the holidays.

We've found that when we throw a holiday party, not all employees are able to make it because they're working so hard this time of year. So, in recent years, we've started giving out gift cards and sometimes bonuses.

In terms of the incentives we offer staff for working holidays, we usually have an abundance of treats lying around. Also, those who work a holiday get a free meal. That's a nice perk that folks seem to enjoy. We try and keep a fun and festive atmosphere to offset the intensity of the holiday retail environment. The period between Christmas and New Year's Day is very slow for us.  It's a good time to relax a bit, take a day or two off and reflect on the year.

Usually, I offer employees a bonus. We don't have time for parties because we're busy during the holidays. Sometimes I am able to give individuals who have performed exceptionally well a gift of some sort like a night away at an inn or a gift certificate to a restaurant. If you treat your employees well, they will treat you well.

Both part-time and full-time associates enjoy a holiday bonus. In addition, our executives and senior leaders do appreciation visits to thank our associates for all their hard work during the year.
