Wayne, NJ – March 24, 2008 – Today Triarco Industries made its much anticipated water-soluble liquid glucosamine available to manufacturers. It is the first to be released in a line of liquids created to address the solubility and bioavailability challenges traditionally posed by certain ingredients.
“Formulating and processing with glucosamine can be frustrating,” said Triarco President Rodger Rohde. “Triarco’s new liquid glucosamine, however, will allow manufacturers to work with a highly concentrated glucosamine that remains truly water-soluble. Our liquid glucosamine is stable, easy to work with, tasteless, and colorless.”
Safeguarding the texture and integrity of glucosamine products has become increasingly important to manufacturers as demand for the ingredient is on the rise. Americans spent close to $1 billion dollars on glucosamine last year. Older consumers, who may have difficulty swallowing pills, report a preference for the liquid form of glucosamine. In addition, the liquid form of glucosamine has been shown to be more readily absorbed by the body.
According to the National Advisory Board, 100 milligrams of glucosamine consumed in tablet form resulted in an 8.3% minute stabilized concentration in the blood, whereas liquid glucosamine produced blood concentrations of 98%.
“Studies show that liquid glucosamine is up to eight times more absorbable than glucosamine in pill form. This means that the body can utilize more glucosamine, more rapidly, when taken as a liquid,” explained Dr. Mark Anderson, Triarco Director of Research and Development. “Since Triarco’s glucosamine is already in a highly water- soluble liquid form, free of the fillers and stabilizers often needed in powders, it is exceptionally bioavailable.”
Glucosamine is thought to support joint resilience and flexibility because it is used by the body to produce glycoproteins, molecules that attract and bind water to cartilage. It is a key component in cartilage, ligaments and tendons.
It is often taken to support joint health in athletes and those with joint pain and osteoarthritis. Approximately one of every six Americans suffers from arthritis. This number is predicted to increase over the next ten years.
